My passion for horse began very early. While living in San Diego, CA, I started taking riding lessons and showing in all disciplines. My father retired from the US Navy in 1977 moving our family to Van Buren, AK. I continued advancing my horse career and began training other’s horses.

After graduating high school, I went on to earn my degree in nursing working in Intensive Care, Obstetrics, and Orthopedics. In 1984 I left it all behind to start a career flying for American Airlines and moving to DFW. The only time I had a chance to ride was when I was home visiting.

In 1997 I was blessed with my only child, Marissa. Just like her mother, Marissa was hooked on horses and began taking riding lessons at 6 years old. Watching my little girl grow in her riding career got me hooked back into the horse world.

It 2006 my dream came true and we bought a farm in Midlothian, TX. After a lot of sweat, tears, and hard work, JoMar (Jo = Joni  Mar = Marissa) Farms was opened. In 2016 after Marissa went off to TTU, the empty nest syndrome kicked in and I began riding and showing once again.

I began my horseback riding career at the age of 6, taking horseback riding lessons and showing our ponies. Horseback riding quickly became my passion and my life. I got my first section C Welsh mare, Madoc Rhossilli Bay, and began showing the Welsh Circuit and many local circuits. Together, Rhoss and I won multiple National titles, but unfortunately my legs grew long and we had our last show season together in 2009.

I received my next Welsh from my grandfather, a young section D Welsh Cob named Diamond K Monte. We began our riding partnership slow, allowing our bond to grow; we eventually began showing in the Welsh circuit and local circuits and again became nationally recognized. During this time, I began riding and showing horses and ponies for other riders and trainers. I advanced my riding career by showing in Dressage and Eventing with Monte as well as other horses in the local area.

My passion for horses continued through college, and I had the opportunity to lead my team as captain of the Texas Tech Equestrian team for two seasons! I graduated from TTU in fall 2019, and went back to school to become a Physical Therapist Assistant. I began practicing as a healthcare professional in January 2022, and am lucky enough that my job is flexible and I am able to give riding lessons, ride all of my ponies, and be able to hit all of the horse shows!  I would like to thank Mariam Copeland and Lynda Lewis; without you both I could not be the confident, soft, and patient rider I am today. I must also thank my Mother and Grandfather for making my dreams come true!
